Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide exists primarily as the oxidized NAD+ and reduced NADH redox pair. It is required for hundreds of oxidation-reduction reactions in glycolysis, the tricarboxylic-acid cycle, fatty-acid oxidation, and mitochondrial respiration. NAD+ also serves as a consumed substrate for enzymes including sirtuins, poly(ADP-ribose) polymerases, and CD38-family enzymes. Because NAD biology spans redox chemistry, DNA-damage responses, calcium signaling, circadian regulation, and metabolism, experimental interpretation depends on compartment, redox state, purity, pH, and degradation. Commercial NAD+ powder should not be equated with evidence for oral, injectable, or anti-aging outcomes. Product identity and oxidation state must be confirmed analytically.
